چکیده
Abstract To examine the effects of maternal nutrient restriction on net uteroplacental flux during mid-gestation, 14 singleton ewes (48.2 ± 4.0 kg body weight) were fed 100% (control; CON; n = 7) or 60% requirements (restricted; RES; from day 50–90 (mid-gestation). On 90, blood flow was measured via Doppler ultrasonography and samples collected femoral artery, uterine vein, umbilical vein. Blood vessel glucose amino acids (AA) concentrations arterial-venous (uterine, AV; fetal, va) differences fluxes calculated. Data analyzed using GLM procedure SAS for treatment. Nutrient mid-gestation did not influence (P ≥ 0.17) flows. Maternal nutrient restriction during early to mid gestation up-regulates cardiac insulin-like growth factor (IGF) receptors associated with enlarged ventricular size in fetal sheep.
Intrauterine undernutrition is associated with a high incidence of cardiovascular diseases in adulthood. We previously showed that maternal nutrient restriction during early to mid gestation produces ventricular enlargement, although the mechanism is unknown. We examined myocardial expression of insulin-like growth factor I (IGF-1), IGF-2, IGF binding protein 3 (IGFBP-3), IGF-receptor 1 (IGF-1R...

Mechanisms linking maternal nutrient restriction (MNR) to intra-uterine growth restriction (IUGR) and programming of adult disease remain to be established. The impact of controlled MNR on maternal and fetal amino acid metabolism has not been studied in non-human primates. We hypothesised that MNR in pregnant baboons decreases fetal amino acid availability by mid-gestation. We determined matern...

Protein supplementation during human pregnancy does not improve fetal growth and may increase small-for-gestational-age birth rates and mortality. To define possible mechanisms, sheep with twin pregnancies were infused with amino acids (AA group, n = 7) or saline (C group, n = 4) for 4 days during late gestation. In the AA group, fetal plasma leucine, isoleucine, valine, and lysine concentratio...
متن کاملRepeated ethanol exposure during late gestation decreases nephron endowment in fetal sheep.
Maternal alcohol consumption during pregnancy can affect fetal development, but little is known about the effects on the developing kidney. Our objectives were to determine the effects of repeated ethanol exposure during the latter half of gestation on glomerular (nephron) number and expression of key genes involved in renal development or function in the ovine fetal kidney. Pregnant ewes recei...
متن کاملMaternal nutrient restriction during pregnancy impairs an endothelium-derived hyperpolarizing factor-like pathway in sheep fetal coronary arteries.
The mechanisms underlying developmental programming are poorly understood but may be associated with adaptations by the fetus in response to changes in the maternal environment during pregnancy. We hypothesized that maternal nutrient restriction during pregnancy alters vasodilator responses in fetal coronary arteries. Pregnant ewes were fed a control [100% U.S. National Research Council (NRC)] ...
